The same park costs Β₯418 on an off-peak day and Β₯748 on a specific day, with Β₯528 and Β₯638 in between β a Β₯330 spread decided entirely by the calendar. The official 90-day rolling price calendar shows which tier every coming date belongs to. Before you look at a single channel offer, find the cheapest tier your itinerary can flex to, and treat any 'discount' as real only when it beats that tier's official price.

Universal Beijing the Passport Way: Tiered Tickets, Express Passes and the Park That Sold Out in One Minute
Four ticket tiers, a ticket that lives in your passport, and a metro station built for the park: how to land China's first Universal resort without letting the queues eat the day.
The short answer
At midnight on 14 September 2021, Universal Beijing put its first tickets on sale β and China answered all at once. Within ten seconds the park sat on top of the sales platform's global single-attraction chart. Within one minute, every ticket for opening day was gone. Within three minutes, bookings had passed ten thousand; within thirty, the Universal Studios Grand Hotel had sold out its opening-day rooms entirely. The resort's own booking mini-programme buckled in under a minute, leaving buyers staring at failed payments and forced refunds until the resort came out and apologised. Six days later, on 20 September 2021, in the middle of the Mid-Autumn holiday, the gates opened on the largest Universal park ever built.
A park that can crash its own ticket system is not a park you improvise. Universal Beijing runs on a four-tier price calendar, a real-name ticket bound to your passport, a queue-skipping product with no fixed price list, and a metro station built to be the end of the line. None of that is hard once it is laid out in order β and laid out in order is exactly what this guide does, from choosing the cheapest tier your trip allows to swiping your passport at the gate.

The day, in the order it actually happens
Weeks out β open the 90-day price calendar and choose your date by tier: Β₯418 / Β₯528 / Β₯638 / Β₯748
Booking β one dated ticket, bound to your passport number, on the official app or an authorised channel
Night before β app loaded, Express decided, your date's opening and closing times confirmed
Morning β Line 7 or a Line 1βBatong through train to Universal Resort station, the end of the line
Exits B / C / D β about 7 minutes on foot to the CityWalk security check
The gate β swipe the original passport you booked with; the document is the ticket
First hour β Forbidden Journey and the Decepticoaster before the queues are built
Midday β the indoor Kung Fu Panda land and the seated WaterWorld show while the day is hottest and fullest
Afternoon β Minion Land and the gentler rides; re-check live queue times in the app
Evening β dinner in CityWalk, no ticket needed, after the park gates close
By visitor β thrill-first: both big-height rides early, Express held for them Β· families: heights measured at home, Minion Land in the afternoon Β· one day only: a low-tier date beats a peak date plus Express
Do these before you go

The park, landed step by step
Every ticket is date-specific, real-name and non-transferable, and the document is the ticket. In the official app or mini-programme you can book with a passport as the identity document; authorised international platforms also sell passport-booked tickets and are often the smoother checkout for a foreign card. Whichever channel you use, the name and passport number on the booking must be the passport you will physically carry on the day.
Universal Express comes as a single-ride pass β listed from Β₯190 on the official ticket page β and as 3-ride, 5-ride and 14-ride sets. There is no fixed published price list: prices move with the date and appear when you select yours in the app. On a low-tier weekday, your feet and the first hour may be all the Express you need; on a Β₯748 specific day, price a set before you pay peak money to stand in peak queues. Stock is limited and busy dates sell out.
The official app (with the WeChat and Alipay mini-programmes alongside) is where tickets and Express passes are bought, and on the day it becomes the park's control panel: live queue times, the show schedule, the park map and mobile food ordering. Install it, load your booking into it, and check your date's actual opening and closing times β they change by date and there is no single year-round timetable to memorise.
Universal Resort station is the shared terminus of Metro Line 7 and the Line 1βBatong line, and since the lines were connected, Line 1 through trains run the full way from Gucheng β from most of central Beijing this is a one-seat ride to the end of the line, which also means a realistic chance of sitting down. Leave by exits B, C or D and allow about seven minutes on foot to the CityWalk security check, then the length of CityWalk to the globe and the gates.
There is no paper ticket to print and no QR code that substitutes for you. At the gate you present β and swipe β the original passport the booking was made under, and your Express entitlements ride on the same document number. A photograph of the passport page, or a photocopy, is not the document; the passport lives in your day bag, not in the hotel safe.
Queues in this park are built by mid-morning and stay built. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey carries a hard 122 cm minimum height and one of the longest lines in the park; the Decepticoaster in Transformers Metrobase tops the height chart at 132 cm. Ride the headline pair first, or hold Express for them, and let the lands everyone else is still walking towards be your quiet first hour.
Beijing weather and Beijing crowds both peak in the middle of the day, so schedule it defensively. The Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is a complete land built indoors β a world first β and WaterWorld is a seated stunt show; both absorb the hot, crowded hours better than outdoor queues do. Save the exposed rides for the softer light at either end of the day.
Measure children at home against the numbers that gate whole lands: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem sits at the gentle end (around 92 cm in family-guide summaries), Flight of the Hippogriff asks 99 cm with an adult alongside up to 122 cm, the Jurassic World flying ride asks 100 cm, Transformers: The Ride and Jurassic World Adventure ask 102 cm, Forbidden Journey 122 cm and the Decepticoaster 132 cm. Under-16s must be accompanied by a visitor aged 16 or over. The park's own boards and the app rule on the day β check them before promising a child a ride.
CityWalk, the dining and shopping street between the station and the gates, needs no ticket and keeps longer hours than the park β roughly 07:30 to 21:30, and to 22:00 at weekends. Use it for dinner after the gates close instead of joining the entire park in the metro queue at once, then ride home from the same station once the first wave has cleared.
The facts the plan is built on
Universal Beijing Resort opened to the public on 20 September 2021, after an invite-only trial period from 1 September; it is the world's fifth and Asia's third Universal theme park, China's first, and was the largest Universal park in the world when it opened
Checked November 2026The resort covers roughly 400 hectares and packages seven themed lands, 37 rides and landmark attractions, 24 entertainment shows, a free-entry CityWalk and two hotels into one metro-served site
Checked November 2026Four of the lands are world firsts in some form: the first Kung Fu Panda land (and fully indoors), the first Transformers-themed land, the first dedicated WaterWorld land, and the largest Minion land anywhere
Checked November 2026Standard one-day tickets run on four date tiers β Β₯418 off-peak, Β₯528 regular, Β₯638 peak and Β₯748 on specific days β with child, senior and disabled tickets at roughly 75 percent of the tier (Β₯315, Β₯395, Β₯480 and Β₯560); children are 3 to 11 years old, seniors are 65-plus, and under-3s enter free
Checked November 2026A rolling 90-day official price calendar assigns every date to its tier in advance, so the price of a given day is knowable before any channel tries to sell it to you
Checked November 2026Every ticket is date-specific, bound in real name to an identity document and non-transferable; the passport is an accepted document in the official app and mini-programme, and entry is by presenting the original document used for the booking
Checked November 2026The official ticket page lists single-ride Universal Express from Β₯190 and states that Express prices vary by date; 3-ride, 5-ride and 14-ride sets are also sold, with the price for a specific date shown only after that date is selected
Checked November 2026Universal Resort station opened on 26 August 2021 as the shared terminus of Metro Line 7 and the Line 1βBatong line, with through trains running from Gucheng on Line 1; exits B, C and D leave about a seven-minute walk to the CityWalk security check
Checked November 2026Guests of the resort's two hotels β the Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel β enter early through a dedicated entrance, typically about an hour ahead, under the resort's daily notice
Checked November 2026When tickets went on sale at midnight on 14 September 2021, the park topped the sales platform's global single-attraction chart within ten seconds, opening-day tickets sold out within one minute, bookings passed ten thousand within three minutes, and the official booking system failed under the load β for which the resort publicly apologised
Checked November 2026Where this park catches people out
The resort deliberately publishes no fixed Express tariff: the price of every set is generated per date and shown only after you select that date in the official app. Any article or seller quoting one fixed price for the 3-, 5- or 14-ride sets is showing you a snapshot from somebody else's date. This guide prints only the officially listed 'from Β₯190' single-ride line, and so should your budget maths.
The official app is the primary channel and accepts passport bookings, but its registration and payment steps lean on Chinese payment rails and can fight a foreign card. The authorised international platforms exist precisely in that gap and bind the ticket to the same passport. What you must not do is buy from unauthorised resellers: the ticket is real-name, non-transferable and checked against a document, so a stranger's bargain cannot get you through the gate.
Opening is commonly 09:00 and closing falls between 19:00 and 20:00, but both move with the date, the season and special events. A plan built on last month's hours fails quietly; your date's hours, in the official app, are the only ones that exist.
The height figures in this guide are compiled from official-adjacent and family-guide summaries, not from a single published park table β the complete per-ride table was not available to verify line by line. Treat them as planning numbers for measuring children at home; the park's own signage and staff measurement at the ride are final, and the hard lines (122 cm on Forbidden Journey, 132 cm on the Decepticoaster) are enforced as hard lines.
The Β₯330 gap between the cheapest and dearest standard day is the single biggest saving available in this park, and it is won at the calendar stage, not at checkout. Conversely, on specific days the standard ticket, the top Express sets and the hotel rooms all sell through β if your date is fixed and top-tier, book everything the moment your plans are firm.
Not as a plan. Tickets are date-bound and real-name, peak dates sell through in advance β in 2021 the entire opening day went in a minute β and nothing about the gate rewards improvisation. Book in advance through an official or authorised channel, against your passport.
Yes β the passport is an accepted booking document in the official channels, and at the gate the original passport you booked with is what gets you in. The corollary matters just as much: a booking made under a different document, an expired passport or a photocopy will not open the gate. Renew first, then book against the new number.
One well-run day covers the highlights: the metro delivers you to the gate, the first hour takes the two hardest rides, and Express or a low-tier date keeps the queues survivable. But 37 rides and 24 shows do not fit in a day, and on peak dates the 1.5-day and 2-day tickets exist precisely because one day stops being fun. Families with small children usually get more from two slower days than one heroic one.
Staying at the Universal Studios Grand Hotel or the NUO Resort Hotel buys the dedicated early entrance β typically about an hour before general opening, under the day's official notice β which is the cleanest queue-beating device the resort sells. It does not buy shorter queues after opening, and the early hour is worth most on mid- and high-tier dates; on a quiet off-peak weekday, the metro and an alarm clock do nearly the same job for free.
Because the calendar says so, not because the park changes. The four tiers price demand, not content: the rides, lands and shows are identical on a Β₯418 Tuesday and a Β₯748 holiday. If a seller presents a higher price as a better product β or a lower one without naming its tier β go back to the official 90-day calendar and check which day you are actually buying.
Checking a 'discount' before checking the tier calendar. Booking under a document you will not be carrying. Assuming Express has a fixed price and budgeting a stranger's snapshot. Arriving by car at a park designed around a metro terminus. Promising a 120 cm child the Forbidden Journey. And leaving CityWalk dinner until the whole park exits at once. Every one of them is decided the night before, not at the gate.
